BIOTECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

General information about the Department:

The Department of Biotechnology came into existence with the commencement of BSc Biotechnology course during the academic year 2002-2003 as per the Pune University norms and M. Sc. (Biotechnology) course in the academic year 2007-08. Four batches of degree students have passed since then with almost 100% result. The Department already has three well-established laboratories for conducting B. Sc & M.Sc. (Biotech) courses, with a built up area of 5,800 sq. ft. There are instrument rooms, media preparation room, and separate inoculation and incubation rooms for animal and plant tissue culture. A separate well equipped laboratory, an instrument room, inoculation and culture rooms (Total built up area of 2,500 sq. ft.) is available exclusively for conducting MSc classes and Practicals.

A well equipped separate research laboratory in the Department having advance equipments for ongoing research projects. There are major as well as minor research projects of worth Rs. 59 lakhs with research students. There is a well-stocked departmental library with about 900 books and journals.

SALIENT FEATURES OF THE DEPARTMENT
